Cooperation both been going on since 2008 when AkzoNobel, through the Sikkens brand, became the official supplier of car paint for a Formula 1 team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. In the latest agreement, which lasts four years, AkzoNobel will cooperate with McLaren Racing to develop specific environmental technologies that will be used in Formula 1 and in the wider industry.

Hans Wijers said the knowledge gained from cooperation as long as this allows it to use 80 percent of paint technology that was created specifically for the McLaren Racing to ordinary consumers. New MP4-26 car which is equipped with high-gloss Sikkens system will be ridden by former champion Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. The opening Grand Prix this season will take place in Bahrain on March 13, 2011.
